Football applies the
same scoring increments
as basketball -- 1, 2, and 3 points -- plus a puzzling
one of its own --
6 points.
In basketball, points being scored
correspond roughly
to the difficulty and risk of a given shot. Baseball,
too, scores its runs
in units of 1 through 4 that relate inversely to the
likelihood of various
opportunities arising in play.
Does
football scoring make sense?
